Mr.Save

ABOUT KALPAVRUKSH FARM

Mr. Save’ started 'Kalpavruksh' farm in south Gujarat in 1953. At that time, the use of agrochemicals was just starting to spread in India. Like most farmers, he abandoned his father's traditional farming methods and adopted the conventional or chemical farming methods. First, he believed that chemical farming was a superior and scientific method. His farm used as a demonstration farm and scientists of Mumbai and Poona followed his results. However, as he was very fond of experimentation, he carefully analyzed what happened. At the end of the third year, he realized that he was spending more and more to get less and less. For that reason, he decided to experiment with Organic Farming and started on a small plot, on which the he completely stopped use of chemicals. Initially there was a further drop in production but farm profits were higher than before due to savings on costs of inputs. Each year he converted more acres into Organic Farming. Steadily, both the soil and the production improved. External inputs of organic matter gradually reduced. Now, his farm is completely free of chemicals from 1960 to 2018 already 58 years. By carefully observing nature, he developed a system of Natural Farming, which is very productive while conserving the natural resource base.

'Kalpavruksh' farm is in Umbergaon, the costal zone of South Gujarat. Traditionally Umbergaon has known for its orchards of Chickoo (also called sapodilla or sapota) and Coconut trees. The land is nearly flat and receives about 2000 mm rain from the South-West monsoon from June to September. The soil life has become very rich and plant nutrients are abundant. Due to the many earthworms and other microorganisms, the soil's structure has become very porous providing excellent drainage, moisture holding capacity and aeration. The maximum depth of water is 10m.

Kalpavruksh farm is about 15 acres, of which 11 acres are under tree crops, 2 acres for Coconut nursery, and 2 acres for field crops like rice, pulses, vegetables, etc., which are mainly used for own home consumption. Main market crops are Chickoo (about 350 trees) and Coconut (about 350 trees). Yearly, about 25,000 Coconut saplings are sold and other coconuts are use for extracting oil. Smaller numbers of banana, papaya, mango, jackfruit, guava, areca nut, custard apple, black & white jamun, drumsticks, curry-leaves, pepper, passion fruit, etc. planted in between coconut trees. Further two cows, 1 bull and two calves kept at the farm.

Labour requirement is very low in organic farming and it is well distributed over the year. The main work was done by Late Mr. Save and now by his son. Harvesting, washing and sorting of Chickoos is done by 3 employed girls. Approximately 90% of the revenue of the farm comes from Chickoo and Coconut and the other 10% from bananas, curry leaves and honey.

ABOUT SANGHAVI FARM

Sanghavi Farm (2004)

With the blessing of God, we brothers purchased 23 acres of land in the name of Sanghavi farm. The reason for a businessperson going towards the farming business was to acquire disease-free food grains along with happiness, peace and healthy-wealthy life.

As we did not know what to grow on this land, we approached a modern farming scientist. He prepared a report for the developing our land, it showed an investment of Rs. 60 lacs and profit of lacs of rupees on paper, but there was not guarantee of achieving this profit! In short, ‘Keeping this in mind if one is ready to face losses then only he should go into farming line'. These were the words of the Modern Farming B.Sc & M.Sc. learned scientist.

As per Mr. Save's philosophical, spiritual and religious talks and experience, ‘Farming is not a business, but a religious work. Thus for the complete development of Sanghavi farm only Rs. 60,000/- were required.' Therefore, in the year 1987 we started developing our wasteland as holy work. Now let us see our experience and its results are as follows:

Sanghavi Farm - Waste land expense and income.

  • Our investment of Rs. 60,000/- and returned with a profit of Rs. 15,000/- within 4 months
  • We got a net profit of Rs. 154/- per tree for cosmopolitan banana plantation. Therefore, by Mr. Save's system of Organic Farming we received lacs of rupees.
  • The west coast's tall variety of Coconut plants fruit only after 7 years, but with Mr. Save's system of Organic Farming, we received a bumper production in just 3 years.
  • Instead of 7 years we got bumper production of Litchi in just 3 years, that too from a highly diseased plant.
  • We planted Kesar, Rajapuri and Alphanso mangoes. We started getting mango production in just 6 months. With this positive result, we have developed a new saying, ‘The father sows mangoes and he eats the fruit.' One another miracle happened with Organic Farming, in the monsoon season mango trees had a second flowering and blossomed. This achievement of ours covered and telecasted by BBC news.
  • With Mr. Save's system, we grew sugarcane, in which we sow once and reap continuous production 7 to 8 times from the same plant.
  • On the basic principle of planets (Zodiac signs), we have planted 12 Coconut sapling in a circle. We have named it ‘Mr. Save's Suryamandal'. This experiment got major success on our wasteland; that is why we say that if we apply the same principle then deserts like Rajasthan and Gujarat can turned into paradises and that too with minimum water. Even if a person has just one acre of land then he and his family of eight people can easily survive on its income.

ABOUT SANGHAVI FARM RAJKOT

Many farmers have asked us one question, “Our area is dry and very less rainfall so we are not in horticulture but we are in Agriculture. If we have good water and irrigation facility then only we get good production. Does Mr Save system of Organic Farming have any such method, where we do not have to irrigate any water? Can we do Organic farming only with rainwater?”

To answer the above question our story began in 1989. I was earning good profit with Mr Save's system of farming, so I decided to increase the farming area. This time I showed my interest in field crop cultivation. For a special purpose, I purchased 20 acres of land in Rajkot (Gujarat), which is very far from our Umbergaon farm. The second special purpose was that, many farmers and scientist argue that, “Your environment and soil is different that is why you have succeeded in doing Organic Farming, but in the dry area your system and Organic Farming will not work because of the difference in soil and environment.” In fact, this was a challenge to us, to prove our ability. Therefore, to set an example and to verify Mr Save's System of Organic Farming in Agriculture, I purchased land in the dry part of Gujarat.

In Rajkot village a farmer had a 20 acre land; he had almost lost everything due to The Modern Method of Farming, so he sold me the 20 acres of land for Rs 50,000 /- only. He sold the land to us at such a less rate because his land was full of chemical fertilisers and soil ph value was very high. The best fertile land was turned into wasteland even grass was not growing in that land.

Our intention was different and we wanted to prove that no land ever be a wasteland. Only because of the wrong system, farmers turn their good land into wasteland. Now a good fertile land which had developed such high acidic value; can one do Organic farming only with rainwater?

We did all the planning as per our Save’ system. For proper soil fertility we covered the land with river soil, sowing seeds and a little levelling, for this total work we paid Rs 10,000/- for 20 acres of land. We purchased the seed from open market and we paid total Rs 10,000/- for the seeds. Including cost of land, we made an investment of total Rs 70,000/- for our research in groundnut cultivation.

In the system of Mr Save’, the basic principal is, “After first tilling and sowing, if there is no need, then do not step in the farm, because the soil and seed germination gets disturbed.”

For the first time in the Rajkot district, we planted groundnut with Mr Save's system of Organic Farming and all the other farmers planted with The Modern Method of Farming. If you want to verify Rajkot's monsoon records for the year 1990, then you will see that the monsoon started on time and in the proper way, but the second round was very late and developed scarcity of water. As the monsoon started on time and small baby plants grew. The farmer who followed The Modern Method of Farming did their work, but we did nothing as per Mr Save's system.

All the farmers prayed for second rainfall, but there was no rain. So many had to incur a terrible loss because of no water, all the baby plants burnt and became dry in the heavy sunlight. However with us as usual there was a miracle, without irrigating a single drop of water our baby plants were green and healthy, why so? (Mr. Save explained the reason and about the systems which is there in the book.)

So, in just four months, after investing Rs 70,000/- we earned a profit of Rs 80,000/-. We also collected the data that in our Organic groundnut the oil recovery was 30% more. We did not bother to count the other benefits like that of manure and oil cake.

With our research, we have one more time succeeded to prove that land can never be wasteland. Mr Save's system of Organic farming can be a success anywhere in the world. In addition, we prove that to earn money farming is the best line. Due to many reasons, we had to sell our Rajkot farm.

ABOUT DEV FARM

We earned a good amount from Rajkot from groundnut cultivation. But at what cost? Just for money, we had to leave all our social life and family. This was the main reason why we sold Sanghavi Farm of Rajkot. After Rajkot’s success, we decided to increase the farming area at Umbergaon only. Mumbai is very near to Umbergaon so I can give my attention on farming as well as enjoy my family life.

One day we got news that in Umbergaon a 30 year old farm is for sale. The reason of selling farm was the same as that of the Rajkot farmer. In that farm, there were many Coconut, Chickoo, Mango trees and many other trees. The farm was developed with The Modern Method of Farming and the owner had invested lacs of rupees in 30 years. The Balance sheet showed an investment of Rs 2 /- and an income of just Re 1 /- ! Many trees were standing like electric poll for the last 30 years. No doubt as per the tree's religion the blossom use come well, but before it turns into fruit, premature fruits use to fall off. Why small fruits fall?

Mr. Save use to say that Army, Navy and Air Force of the trees have disturbed by The Morden Method of Farming so they cannot work and perform their duty properly. We can say in other words that that was a miscarriage by a woman. By spending a lot of money, almost all the treatments given to get good production but the result was zero. The owner had many businesses so he could manage losses up to 30 years but at last, he fed up with farming. Therefore, he was selling his farm.

In the farming community when a farmer's son does not want to go into farming then who will show interest in a non-profitable farming business? This is the reason why many Patel farmer families have migrated to America from India.

Mr Save’ told me, “Mr Ashok! If you have any interest then purchase this farm, I will show you the result of Organic Farming in just six months."

We purchased the 30 years old 11 acres land from Mr. Modi in the year 1995. Every time God had blessed us, so we kept our farm’s name as "Dev farm" (Load's Farm). One more time we followed Mr. Save system of Organic Farming.

Mr. Save’ advised me to change only the irrigation system. The old system was ring and flood irrigation, which we closed with organic manure and changed it to the platform and trench system. The tree, which had never given any production on such trees we received blossom and fruits in just six months. With the help of Mr. Save's system, we have just helped the trees perform their religious work to give fruits to human, which they could not perform due to the wrong modern method of farming. By this unbelievable result of Dev Farm, Mr. Save’ has proven that he is a protector of the environment, farming community and humanity. Due to Gujarat GIDC’s development, we have to sell our Dev Farm.

ABOUT JAIN FARM

We benefited three times with Save’s system of Organic Farming. We have been able to prove that to earn money there is no need to go to a foreign country or do a cheap service without any self-respect. Our ancestors have said that ‘To earn good money, farming is the best way’. This we have proven with Save’s system. This was the reason that we all Sanghavi brothers have decided not to go in any other business except farming. So to set one more example we purchased one more 14-acre Farm near Mr. Save’s farm and named it ‘Jain Farm’.

At Jain Farm we are doing that research which no one has ever done. Still we have not received 100% result, so we are keeping quiet because of our principle i.e. ‘No preaching without actual practise’. Half knowledge is worst and it always misguides people like modern method of farming.

Now Sanghavi family’s have only this farm and we Save’ & Sanghavi will show you a results. We will share all our organic farming research with you on our website, only after we get good result.

Mahatma Gandhi

Since 1960 Shri Save’ and since 1987 we Sanghavis are doing Organic farming. After all our experiences we Save & Sanghavi say only one think, for Good Health, Wealth and Happiness, please return back to nature and do not disturb the work of Bramha, Vishnu and Shankar. In fact, they are 3 GODs of 3 departments (G – Generator, O – Operator & D – Destroyer). Knowingly or unknowingly if one interferes in their developed work, one has to face consequences.
